The Day-Rate Docket

What sits inside the day rate
Copy 1 of the docket, printed here so you can check it without touching the widget. Every line carries the reason it is inside rather than billed at the kerb.
- Vehicle and chauffeurWhy it is inside: you are hiring a driven car, not renting a shell. The driver is our employee, briefed on your route before pickup.
- Fuel within the stated operating zoneWhy it is inside: capping fuel by the litre turns every detour into an argument. We set a zone instead, and print it on the docket.
- Parking charges and road tollsWhy it is inside: they are small, constant and unpredictable. Batu Cermin, the harbour and the airport car parks are all covered.
- Parking at the listed stops on your itineraryWhy it is inside: the car park charge at each agreed stop is ours, not yours. Your own entry tickets are not — those sit on Copy 3, and Komodo National Park is the clearest example.
- Driver’s own mealsWhy it is inside: the single most common question from UK and Australian travellers. He eats on our account, not yours, and he does not sit at your table unless invited.
- Driver’s accommodation on overland nightsWhy it is inside: an overland day rate that leaves the driver’s room out is not a day rate, it is a deposit on an argument.
- Bottled drinking water for every seatWhy it is inside: it costs us almost nothing and it is a hot island. Restocked each morning of a multi-day hire.

The questions travellers actually send us first
The five questions that open most first enquiries from the UK and Australia. Each answer names the docket line it maps to.
Does the driver eat with us, and do we pay for his food?
No, and no. His meals are inside the day rate on every hire we run, and on overland nights his room is too. He will normally eat separately while you are at lunch, unless you ask him to join you.

Who pays parking at Batu Cermin and the harbour?
We do. Parking and road tolls are inside the rate, including the harbour, the airport and the day-trip car parks. What we do not cover is your own entry ticket to an attraction.

What happens after your block ends — do you just keep the meter running?
There is no meter. You book a block — 5-hour, half-day, 12-hour, full-day or multi-day — counted from your pickup. We publish no per-hour overtime tariff, so we will not print one here: hours beyond your block are quoted on WhatsApp and written into your quote before the day starts.

Is fuel capped, or will there be a surprise on the invoice?
Fuel is not capped by the litre. It is covered within the operating zone stated on your docket. Leave that zone — a West Flores loop, or an overland leg — and there is one flat surcharge line, agreed up front, not a fuel reconciliation afterwards.

Can we change the route mid-day, and do you take card?
Route changes inside the same zone and the same hours are fine — tell the driver. A change that pushes you into a new zone or past the hire hours gets re-quoted on the spot, before you commit. Payment terms, deposits and the cancellation window are set out in writing with your quote; we do not hold card details on this site.

The fleet, including which class cannot do the road
Seats, a plain luggage rule of thumb and road-surface suitability. Seats full usually means luggage limited — we would rather say so here than at the kerb with your cases on the pavement. We have not measured boot volumes, so we do not print any.

Availability, not price, is the constraint. The Labuan Bajo fleet is genuinely small and June to September sells out. We would rather tell you a class is gone than substitute it quietly — see peak season availability.

The overland clock
- A hire is booked as a block from pickup — 5-hour, half-day, 12-hour, full-day or multi-day. Hours beyond it carry no published per-hour rate and are quoted on WhatsApp.
- Past roughly 4 hours one way, a return the same day stops being sensible and starts being unsafe. We will say so.
- Overland hires are quoted per day, per vehicle, with the driver’s room and meals inside the rate. The supplement is quoted on WhatsApp; we publish no fixed figure.
- A one-way drop carries an empty-return run — the vehicle and driver still have to come home. That line is quoted on WhatsApp too.
- If a road closes for weather or landslip, we re-route and re-quote in writing. We do not simply cancel and keep the deposit.

Invoiced in USD. Deposit terms and the cancellation window are on the quote before you send anything.

Driver briefed the night before
Your route, your pickup time, child seats fitted, any English-language requirement rostered to a named driver.
- Step 05
Hire runs, then drop-off
Clock starts at pickup. Changes inside the zone are free; anything beyond it is re-quoted on the spot, before it happens.
Standing terms — the operator’s statement
- Nothing is charged before you have a written quote you have read.
- Rates are quoted and invoiced in USD; we do not hold card details on this website.
- Changes and cancellations follow the published cancellation policy — no separate verbal terms.
- Child seats must be requested at booking so they can be fitted before pickup; see family car hire with child seats.
- An IDP and a home licence matter only if you self-drive; almost every visitor hires with a driver instead — here is why, and the licence and IDP rules are set out in full.
- If a road is closed, we re-route and re-quote in writing rather than run an unsafe leg.
